Light in the Darkness

I met Nicole on a night I was forming a plan to kill myself. I had previous failed suicide attempts in the past, but I was still struggling with my depression because of my home life. I was working my after school shift at McDonalds when I met her. Some kids from my school came in, one of them who had been a bully to me. As soon as they came to the counter, he started his usual hurtful words. At this time, I was close to walking out of the restaurant and into the busy traffic on 96. Before I could do that, "the pretty girl with curly hair" told him to shut up and leave me alone. He apologized to her, and she started walking over to me, on the other side of the counter. Her first words to me were, "Hi Brittany, my name is Nikki. You have really pretty eyes." No one had ever told me that before, she was the first one. She gave me her cell phone number and told me to go to the school game the next day, and that I could hang out with her. I had to work the next day, but at least I had her number, I thought. That night I lost it when my Mom did laundry and I remembered the receipt with her number was still in my work pants pocket. Nikki was the light in my pitch black darkness. Her kindness and compassion, and reaching out to me, though she didn't know me... saved my life. I never thought I would see her again, or hear of her again. But for the past 2 years, her Mom has been my best friend. I'm amazed how God works, and so thankful how He worked through her to reach me. I love you Nikki.
